A Golf Break in St Andrews
Whether you are here to play the world-famous Old Course, the difficult Carnoustie or simply to enjoy all that the Auld Grey Toon has to offer, a golf break in St Andrews is a must.
Which Courses to Play
Firstly, there are the three iconic courses of: The Old Course, Carnoustie and Kingsbarns
Join the greats of the game by teeing off before the legendary R&A clubhouse on The Old Course. The 1st and 18th fairways combined are 129 yards wide. You definitely won’t miss it…. Then there is Carnoustie – or Car-nasty to some given its level of difficulty. Its closing stretch of holes is known across the world, requiring you to negotiate the Barry Burn on numerous occasions. And finally, there is Kingsbarns. While it doesn’t quite have the history of others, it is widely regarded as the best new course anywhere in the world for at least the last 50 years.

While the big-name courses take a lot of the plaudits, there are over 40 courses in St Andrews and the surrounding Kingdom of Fife. Many of them are hidden gems – they perhaps don’t have the stature of the famous courses in the region but they certainly have the quality. Lundin Links is one that should never be overlooked. A quirky links with incredible putting surfaces which the purists will love. Another is Crail, located a very short drive from St Andrews this boasts two world class links courses – Balcomie and Craighead – which offer a stern test and incredible ocean views in equal measure.
